Murray William Cole Ince was born in Newport, on the Isle of Wight in 1957.  The son of a Shipwright, he began to develop an interest in art at an early age and went on to gain numerous qualifications in various artistic mediums and teaching.

At the age of 10 Murray’s father began teaching him the skills of tooling and woodwork, which ultimately proved to be the starting point of a life-long journey focused upon woodworking, art and all forms of craft. Murray used the knowledge gained from his apprenticeship with his father to become a furniture designer and maker. This has seen him work on a massively diverse range of creative jobs including being employed as a set builder at the Theatre Royal in Windsor. Having always drawn, the painting side has been a gradually acquired skill, learnt from in depth study of masters old and new.

Recently and quite by chance Murray discovered that his four times Great Uncle was one Joseph Murray Ince, a Victorian water-colourist from Presteigne in Wales, who studied under David Cox. Joseph’s works can be seen at The Tate, The Victoria and Albert, The Fitzwilliam in Cambridge and in many other galleries around the world.

Murray has 18 years experience of fine art tuition including running painting experiences for Warner Leisure at Norton Grange in Yarmouth on the Island, tutoring courses for the local Further Education College and demonstrates and teaches for art societies and groups.  He now offers private tuition from his studio in Totland Bay on the Isle of Wight covering many mediums and genres in fine art and crafts, either on a one to one basis or in very small groups.

We are delighted to welcome the return of Isle of Wight artist Murray Ince to Le Manoir.  He has led art courses in the UK and abroad, and his courses here at Le Manoir since 2013 have been a great success.

Murray is definitely back by popular demand and so it is advisable to book early. This painting and drawing holiday will be enjoyed in a relaxed manner, combining learning with the perfect break.

We invite you to join Murray on this Painting and Drawing Holiday, where you will not only enjoy personal tuition and one-to-one sessions with Murray as you paint and draw, but also benefit from his vast knowlege of art and archtecture in the region as you explore and appreciate the artistic wealth of the area.

Having led several painting and drawing weeks here since 2013, Murray discovered the variety of paintings and sculptures in the area, and would like to share these delights with others.  Combined with painting and drawing, this holiday is a MUST for all artists!

There are little-known galleries and studios, as well as the more famous establishments, which hold something for everyone's tastes.

The week includes trips to places such as St. Emilion and Bordeaux, where you can soak up the atmosphere whilst admiring the various talents on display.  There will be a post-trip discussion over dinner, where everyone can share their views.

Murray's invitation to you:

Here at Le Manoir, the emphasis is on a relaxed and informative holiday especially designed for both the complete novice and the more experienced artist.

The itinerary is carefully planned to give the guest both superb subject matter and a taste of the atmosphere of Dordogne, with its immensely rich history, and of course the world-renowned wines of the Bergerac,

St. Emilion and Bordeaux regions, some of which we will, of course, have the opportunity of tasting for ourselves.

Le Manoir is in a beautiful Estate, with lakes, meadows, wild flowers and much, much, more. Charmaine, your hostess, the Manoir team, and I, the tutor, look forward to greeting you for a week of art appreciation and relaxation.

Best regards,

Murray Ince.

One of Murray's paintings was hung at 'Patchings', being in the grand final of 'Artist of the Year 2015', in conjunction with 'Leisure Painter' and 'The Artist' magazine.

We were very excited at his news, and were thrilled that the painting was the one entitled 'Misty Morning', painted here at Le Manoir, showing the beauty of the mist over the hidden valley (see left).
